...there are no words to describe how disheveled, sad and barren the nave and chancel of St. Paul's appear when the Christmas wreaths and such come down.
I can understand and appreciate the sentiment of how bare the nave and church feels.
What is also sad is the number of Christmas tree's and decorations that 'disappeared' on Dec. 26!! I saw and heard of quite a few people 'taking down the decorations'!
Have we forgotten that the Christmas season does not end on Dec. 26? Have we forgotten our liturgical and historical roots and what Jan. 6 really is a celebration for and about?
Would that we celebrated Epiphany on Epiphany and not move the feast, but celebrate it on its 'proper' liturgical day!!!
How about also remembering "Candlemas"?
Would that our world would revolve around the church again like in ages past!!! I miss those days!!!
That's the thing I liked when I was little--the Christmas trees came down but the awesome star (it was some sort of German-paper-heritage star)stayed hanging from the ceiling until the Sunday before Ash Wednesday.
